Carpenter, 20, wins first of two Mazda cars

THE Guyana Lottery Company Limited (GLCL), yesterday, handed over the first of two cars offered to its winner, Satesh Ramcharran, of Foulis, East Coast Demerara. The presentation was done at GLCL Head Office in Robb Street, Georgetown, where the very excited 20-year-old carpenter confessed to reporters that it is his very first big win and the feeling was unexplainable.
His relatives were with him when he received the ‘Mazda Axela’ vehicle valued $2.8M, that he won after buying a $1,000 ‘Scratch It’ ticket at a shop in his village.
Ramcharran said he is a regular Lotto player and had previously bought several tickets, through which he got cash but the vehicle topped his winnings.
GLCL Manager, Ms. Tracey Lewis, said that since the ‘Cars and Cash’ tickets were put out on March 31 this year, the response has been overwhelming.
She said a total of $120M worth of prizes are to be won, including two cars, one of which Ramcharran got.
Lewis added that six prizes of $500,000 each and many other cash awards are available with the purchase of $1,000 tickets.
She said customers want variety and they prefer instant wins. She announced that, with the upcoming football fever, they have launched a new promotion entitled ‘World Cup Golden Goal’ which offers three top prizes.
