MAGISTRATE Faith McGusty yesterday sentenced a 30-year-old man to seven months in prison after he was found guilty of wounding his sister’s ex-boyfriend after the couple had a misunderstanding.
Darrel Sinclair of Lot 298 Bamboo Drive, Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, made his first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on August 30 last and denied the charge when it was read to him.
Sinclair is alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rishawn Williams on August 26 last.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, stated that Sinclair is a mason and is known to Williams since they reside in the same area. On the night in question around 23:40 hrs, the virtual complainant and Sinclair’s sister, Shauna Rodney, who shared a relationship had a misunderstanding. After Sinclair was informed by his sister about the matter, he armed himself with a cutlass and dealt several chops about Williams’ body.
Sinclair was unrepresented and had been placed on $50,000 bail during the trial. Four witnesses were called to testify in the matter.
Magistrate McGusty, before sentencing Sinclair, took into consideration his age, that he is the father of three minor children and had appeared at ever hearing during his trial.
