MINISTRY of Public Works Force Account Department will tomorrow begin major rehabilitation work on the access road to the University of Guyana (UG) and the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), as well as minor refurbishments to the road leading to Sophia.
This is according to Works Ministry Road Engineer in charge of the project, Mr Lawrence Mentis, who said that, thus far, cleaning of the drains and sidewalks and levelling and patching holes has commenced.
He also disclosed that although the task is to revamp the UG access road, the Works Ministry has found it necessary to give a facelift to the road leading into Sophia, given that it is in a deplorable state, with enormous potholes that cause damage to vehicles. The workers have laid a basic foundation for the said road, he disclosed, and are now patching the holes to ease congestion of traffic. This project is expected to be completed by Sunday, should favourable weather prevail.
This initiative will not only benefit UG and CPCE students, but residents of Cummings Lodge will now be able to faster enter and exit their home community.
