TWENTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD, Azeem Khan of Pere Street, Kitty, Georgetown appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer to a charge detailing that, between June 11 and 12, at Georgetown, he broke and entered the business place of Rudolph Dyal and stole $1M cash.

The prosecutor, Police Corporal Bharrat Mangru, said that Dyal
owns a two-storey concrete and wooden structure, and operates a shop at the lower flat, which is secured by a CCTV camera. An apartment at the lower flat was also occupied by Khan whilst he was a tenant there. A door separates the shop from the apartment once occupied by Khan.

After Dyal discovered that money was missing from his shop over a period of time with no signs of anyone tampering with the shop, he decided to install the surveillance camera in front of the door separating Khan’s apartment from his shop.

Dyal placed $1M in different boxes in his shop on June 11 last, and discovered the money missing on June 12 last. The matter was reported to the police after checks had been made and Khan had been seen on the camera.

The prosecutor did not object to bail being granted Khan, and the magistrate placed him on $100,000 bail, with the condition that he has to lodge his passport at the Kitty Police Station and report to the police every Friday at 5pm.

The case was transferred before Magistrate Faith McGusty for report and fixtures, and will be called again on July 9 for statements.
